Sleek, sensual, and unmistakably curvilinear, No Strings Attached is one of Martin Cooney’s most versatile and tactile works. A continuation of the elegant pool motif introduced in San Rocchino Pool, this sculpture was initially inspired by the form of a stringed instrument—or perhaps a ski run—before evolving into a marble lute of sorts.
As the carving progressed, fretboard-like tramlines emerged, guiding the eye along its silky, flowing surface. Carved from Colorado Yule Marble and hand-polished to a luxurious finish, the piece invites touch as much as admiration.
Whether viewed as an abstract instrument, a sculptural pool, or a freestanding centerpiece, No Strings Attached lives up to its name—freeform, harmonious, and strikingly original.
