For real without all the support and feedback I’m not sure if I would have been as motivated to make sure I uploaded every week, and now it’s the last week of the year I wanted to just properly acknowledge that and say thank you. I started the year by uploading a tribute mix of ‘Great Day’ by DOOM ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzCL8b5cmIc )after finding out about his passing on 31/12/2020, so I thought it would make sense to end the year with this DOOM remix. I remember the loss of DOOM really motivated me to do all that I could as an artist to direct my energy towards music, focusing on elevating and improving whilst paying tribute and homage to all the artists who’ve inspired me. I really do think I’ve learnt a lot throughout the year, particularly on the mixing side of things, which is why I almost immediately chose this beat for the final remix of 2021. I made this beat a while ago and never actually remixed anything with it, but actually wrote a verse over it about focusing on music and improving the craft, which I called ‘Elevating’: https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/elevating To me it just made sense to use this beat, it inspired thoughts and lyrics which I really tried to act on throughout this year, so I thought it would be the perfect vibe to wrap up the year with, and of course I wanted to remix DOOM over it seeing as he gave me mad inspiration to do the most I could with regards to music improvement, and being true to yourself. I tried a few acapellas over the beat and as soon as I heard Figaro over it I knew it was the one. The vocals sat well with the beat without any mixing, and also the sample has kind of a Spanish vibe with the way the guitar sounds and the type of melody it is (I’m not 100% but I’m almost certain the sample was from a Spanish jazz artist), and to me that fit the vibe and feel of Figaro pretty well. Also I know I used clips from the video for Rhinestone Cowboy in my last DOOM remix, but these fit this one too well to not use them again. I did try to make sure I cut up different parts of the video, particularly the scenes with the girl dancing cause I thought that went well with the girl DOOM talks about throughout his Figaro verse, so hopefully people see the difference and think the visuals work.
