Object Lab 7.0 students Megan Cullen, Athanasia Giannetos, Alice Gong, Sara Hasted, Andrew Kim, Lindsay Koso, Selena Shabot, Katherine Trotter, and Emily Watlington were challenged to interpret powerful objects in two different contexts: rooms in the Chipstone Museum in Fox Point, WI, and the galleries of the Milwaukee Public Museum. Students worked with face jugs, a Toussaint L'Ouverture pitcher, and a Union Porcelain Works “Heathen Chinee” pitcher alongside mentors Temple Burling, Carthage College Associate Professor of Biology, Martha Glowacki, Madison-based artist, and Sara Schechner, Curator of the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments at Harvard University. Their interpretations, as documented in this video by Jenny Plevin, highlight the importance of context in making meaning out of objects.
