ODILON REDON: The Monster Maker
Painting terrifying things is truly difficult, but Odilon Redon was a master of it. In his black paintings, or "Noirs", his monsters have no explanation. They are bizarre entities that remind us of our worst nightmares. But the most unsettling of them all is undoubtedly "The Crying Spider" (1881). In this painting, we see a giant spider from which a human face emerges. Its expression is completely neutral, its gaze lost in the void. Yet, from one of its eyes, a single tear rolls down its cheek. Why is this spider crying? Get ready to witness a painting that will undoubtedly send chills down your spine. ► Explore Odilon Redon's Collection at - https://www.inspiraggio.com/collections/odilon-redon ► Shop Art Prints & Canvas at - https://www.inspiraggio.com/collections/shop-all ► Shop Fine Art Phone Cases at - https://www.inspiraggio.com/collections/iphone-cases → Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/inspiraggio → Contact: [email protected] 0:00 Introduction 2:05 Odilon Redon 3:01 "Les Noirs" 6:41 The Crying Spider, 1881 9:25 Outro #arthistory #art Copyright Disclaimer under section 107 of the Copyright Act of 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, education, and research.
