It's a flexible multicarrier modulation technique that, unlike OFDM, uses non-orthogonal subcarriers shaped by individual pulses. This allows for lower out-of-band emissions and lower PAPR but introduces self-interference that needs to be managed at the receiver. It transmits data in 2D time-frequency blocks with multiple sub-symbols per subcarrier, offering adaptability for various wireless applications.
