The village was completely devastated by the 2016 earthquake, of which only ruins remain, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful nature. In June, the entire plateau is colored by the flowering of all the fields, giving life to one of the most astonishing natural spectacles, la Fioritura. The title Pian Perduto takes its name from one of the three plateaus that surround it, and "perduto" means "lost" in Italian, referencing the irreversible damage caused by the earthquake.
