We are always confused in the use of on, over and above.
On means something is on the surface of another thing. It must touch the surface.
Over is used when something has been kept on the surface of something to cover the thing.
Examples
The stars are over our head.
The cloth is over the table.
Your hands are over your face.
Over can also mean the movement from one side to another.
Examples
She jumped over the puddle.
The jumped over the rope.
The birds are flying over the tree.
Above indicates height. It means something is higher than another thing. The twoo things are not in contact.
Examples. The fan is above my head.
The stars are above us.
The roof is above us.
