Although "One Beer" is typically characterized as an MF Doom song, it was actually created through the creative partnership between Doom and Madlib aka Madvillain. It was originally intended to be on the Madvillain album Madvillainy. However, the duo felt it did not fit the concept of Madvillainy, so it was released later on the MF Doom album MM..Food. This is the reason folks most closely associate the track with MF Doom despite the fact that the instrumental of the classic track is solely produced by Madlib. For the "One Beer" beat, Madlib samples the song "Huit Octobre 1971" by Cortex. The iconic melody sung on the Cortex track is the most identifiable aspect of "One Beer". Sebastian took this melody and re-harmonized it with chords similar to the A section of his composition "Same Thing" (also known as "Sad Boy Jazz"). Purest read this and don’t @ us, lol. 00:00 vinyl / streaming release 00:22 elew piano intro establishes theme 01:02 band comes in 01:12 abdias states theme / elew improvises 02:04 abdias solos 02:47 theme reprise 02:57 elew solos / abdias riffs on theme 03:29 abdias spits some fie / elew comps & riffs on theme 04:11 collective theme / TJ solos
