Onocona

ADK, the Adirondacks, the North Country---were an important part of the world I grew up in, and later, as an adult, chose to be in often. When you drive north and enter the Park, you feel lighter, freer. It has a certain magic to it. This one is about an Adirondack spirit (fictional). The lyrics are my own, and the vocals and music were created in Suno. Onocona Caleb laced his boots at dawn Seeking quiet up on the ridge Locked his worries in the car Left a note back on the fridge He said "I need to know only nature's way, Just the woods the sun and the wind" But halfway up the High Peak trail The air went cold and still Onocona...A whisper in the pines Onocona...the woods call out his name Onocona...won’t you let me walk my own damn way? I climbed this mountain just to get out of my own head today Onocona...the woods rule the game He turned around and saw him there A figure pale as morning frost Said "Friend I’ve walked these woods so long I forget the years I lost" Caleb said "Look I’m not your guide And I'm heading off to clear my mind" But the ghost followed and matched his stride Like he’d waited for this time Onocona...Soft as falling snow Onocona...the woods call out his name Onocona...you speak in truths I never learned to say I didn’t come for wisdom but you’re cutting through my fog today Onocona...I guess I’m not the same They reached the peak just after noon Clouds below them like a sea Caleb said "I came to be alone But today you came through for me" The ghost looked out across the range Said "Son the climb is never done" Then he faded into the glaring light Like he was walking to the sun Onocona...White owl on the wind Onocona...the woods call out his name Onocona...you showed me what a man can face with grace I climbed to lose myself but found a truth I can’t replace Onocona...I know I'm not the same He whispered it again Standing where the sky begins A name that felt like stone and flame A name that felt like him Onocona...Just the name Onocona...Caleb headed for home Onocona...Every step a quiet echo Onocona...
