Onshape Tutorial, top down parametric design example: TTT Angled Shelf assembly (Part1)
In this tutorial I go over some strategies for "top down" design in Onshape. Starting with a variable studio to capture the key design dimensions, then creating a couple of layout sketches and deriving them into other part studios to get a common reference. I also use a configuration variable for the shelf part and then use an array variable to call up the different configurations of the shelf from the assembly level. I also discuss some strategies to get around the lack of assembly mirror function in Onshape. Lookout for a "part 2" going into more details soon! This is inspired by TooTallToby's "Angled Shelf" practice model (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L2B4BEF8xA&list=PLzMIhOgu1Y5ch66npEIe0AZEyYMo9nki_&index=14&t=162s). If you have managed to somehow stumble on my channel you probably already know about Toby's work but if you somehow didn't, go checkout his series on the official Onshape channel as well as the tournament and "Model Monday Live" series on his channel! I'm using a free Onshape account so the document I mess around with here can be easily found, just search for "TTT Angled Shelf top down" and it should come right up if you want to look at it for yourself!
