Shifting dubby chords mixed with beefy drums, growly bass and a wonky lead. This started off as an experiment with aux sends and gated reverb, and ended up at the edge of the solar system. The heart of the patch is the WMD Performance Mixer, together with some auxiliary modules I'm putting together as my main recording and performing system. I use a Roland Demora for delay (soon to be replaced by Chronoblob) and a 2hp Verb for reverb. In this patch I'm using the PM's Cue output into Ears to trigger a gate that opens the mix on the Verb, thus creating a gated reverb effect. I can use the cue buttons on the PM to use any channel(s) for the gate, but in this case it's the kick. This not only gives a huge gated kick, but affects the chords in interesting ways. The rest of the patch: Chords: Braids in WTx4 mode through Belgrad in dual HP mode into VCA. Chord type selected by randomly-clocked sequencer. Kick: SSF Entity Percussion through Zlob MinEQ (for extra bass and distortion). Metallic percussion: Rings with Odd output patched back into frequency and position. This way every second hit gets noisy modulation, sounding more like a weird cymbal or wobbly plate, while the clean ones are like timbales or metal rods. Snare/clap: white noise into Pittsburgh Filter in BP mode. Hi-hats: Mutant Hi-hats. Growly bass: Verbos Harmonic Oscillator into VCA. A Function envelope with slowish rise is triggered on the same notes as the kick, and this envelope opens the VCA while increasing the centre frequency and decreasing the width of the HO. Awkward lead: Mother 32. Rhythm sequencing: Four Bricks Rook.
