OpenAI Just Released a Huge Codex Update
OpenAI just rolled out a huge Codex update that pushes it far beyond coding and deeper into real software and workflow execution. Codex can now use any macOS app by seeing, clicking, and typing with its own cursor, and it also includes an in-app browser so it can preview and work with rendered web pages inside the workflow. That matters for frontend iteration, debugging, visual QA, app testing, and other workflows that do not expose an API. OpenAI also added image generation and iteration with gpt-image-1.5 inside Codex, so users can create frontend designs, mockups, game assets, and other visual materials without leaving the workflow. The update also makes Codex more persistent and operational over time. Automations can now run in the same thread with the original context intact, letting Codex pick up where it left off and continue longer-term work automatically. On top of that, Codex now supports more than 90 plugins, giving it broader access to documents, project management tools, code review systems, creative workflows, deployments, and other connected tools. These updates are rolling out on the Codex desktop app starting today.
