OpenAI Codex now has a Chrome extension, giving Codex access to real browser workflows that need signed-in sessions, website approvals, and browser context. This update makes Codex more useful for tasks across Gmail, LinkedIn, Salesforce, internal tools, dashboards, and other websites that require your actual Chrome profile.
The Codex Chrome extension connects through the Codex app as a plugin, allowing Codex to use Chrome when a task needs logged-in browser access while still using approvals, allowlists, blocklists, and confirmations before interacting with websites. OpenAI’s docs also explain that Codex can switch between plugins, Chrome, and the in-app browser depending on the task.
This is a major step toward AI agents that can operate across real web apps, inspect pages, complete browser-based workflows, and assist with more practical automation inside the tools people already use every day.
