Despite the fog and just in time for the severe El Niño weather expected to hit California later this month, Operating Engineers with Shimmick Construction are finishing work on a flood mitigation project in Stockton, Calif.
With this project, residents who live near the San Joaquin River in the Louis Park area are being taken out of a floodplain that would have devastated their neighborhood and greatly impacted Stockton's infrastructure. This will also allow them to lower their housing costs, as it will lift the requirement for flood insurance on homes in that area.
