Optimizing DevEx with Observability in Platform Engineering Using Inspektor Gadget
Good system observability facilitates faster and easier problem investigation and diagnosis. It helps developers pinpoint issues through specific data points and actions leading up to those points. This webinar will introduce Inspektor Gadget , a CNCF sandbox project that is a tool and framework for data collection and system inspection on Kubernetes clusters and Linux hosts using eBPF. Specifically, we will introduce what Inspektor Gadget is, and cover real-world use cases of how platform engineers can use Inspektor Gadget to achieve visibility into their systems. Through this webinar, you will learn what Inspektor Gadget is and how it works, get exposure to several use cases that address common observability challenges that platform engineers face, and have clear next steps as to how you can get started with Inspektor Gadget yourself to improve your platform monitoring and observability. Speakers: ๐ Maya Singh - https://www.linkedin.com/in/mayasingh95 - Product Manager Microsoft ๐ Who is passionate about understanding consumer painpoints, ideating and iterating around solutions, and using data to drive product decisions. She started her career in financial services working on consumer facing web and mobile applications and is now excited to be working on the cloud and delving into all things open source. Maya holds a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Virginia. She is a die hard UVA sports fan and loves to try new restaurants and play tennis and golf in her free time. ๐ Qasim Sarfaraz ๐ https://de.linkedin.com/in/qasim-sarfraz-31611541 - Software Engineer ๐ I am a Software Engineer with 9+ years of experience in cloud deployment, open source development and system software. Currently, I am a maintainer for Inspektor Gadget (CNCF sandbox) and CoreDNS (CNCF graduated ) header plugin. Also, focused on other cloud native projects with contributions to Minikube, Containerd, Buildx etc. Apart from technical expertise I have a passionate and self-driven personality and believe in a get-done mindset. Benefits to the ecosystem: ๐ eBPF is Hard: Low-level technologies like eBPF are excellent for observability but require an in-depth understanding to use effectively. By introducing Inspektor Gadget as an orchestrator for eBPF, we can demonstrate how it simplifies the debugging of complex problems for platform engineers. ๐ Improving Developer Experience: By exploring the background and use cases of building Inspektor Gadget, we aim to inspire workflows that enable people to tackle complex problems more easily, enhancing the overall developer experience. ๐ Observability as Code: By involving more people in the Inspektor Gadget project, we can establish standardized methods for debugging complex problems by sharing image-based gadgets via OCI registries, benefiting the entire ecosystem. ๐งโ๐ป Target Audience Developers, DevOps practitioners, SREs, Cloud Native enthusiasts, Kubernetes curious & anyone interested in creating a streamlined collaborative troubleshooting experience for their teams. ๐งโ๐ป Experience Level Intermediate, primarily targeted to people familiar with Kubernetes architecture and configurations โฐ Duration 60 minutes step-by-step Product Focused workshop. โ๏ธ About the Inspektor Gadget โ๏ธ tools and framework for data collection and system inspection on Kubernetes clusters and Linux hosts using eBPF ๐ : https://www.inspektor-gadget.io/ ๐ : https://github.com/inspektor-gadget/inspektor-gadget ๐: https://www.inspektor-gadget.io/docs/latest/ (docs) ๐: https://www.inspektor-gadget.io/docs/latest/gadget-devel/hello-world-gadget (Starting from scratch) ๐: https://artifacthub.io/packages/search?kind=22&sort=relevance&page=1 (artifacthub) ๐: https://www.inspektor-gadget.io/blog/2024/08/empowering-observability_the_advent_of_image_based_gadgets (Empowering Observability: The Advent of Image-Based Gadgets) ๐จโ๐ About the Host ๐จโ๐ ๐ฆ: https://twitter.com/cloudnativeboy ๐ค: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saim-safder/ ๐งโ๐คโ๐ง About the Community ๐งโ๐คโ๐ง ๐ฆ: https://twitter.com/CloudIslamabad ๐ค: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cloud-native-islamabad/ Here's we host our Cloud Native Webinar's Thanks to CNCF: ๐บ: https://community.cncf.io/islamabad/ ๐: @CloudNativeIslamabad #kubernetes #devops #platformengineering
