OPx-4 Sound Design - Beginner Tutorial
This is an introduction to programming, or designing sounds, on the OPx-4 synth from AIR Music Technology. We walk through building a complete patch from scratch running the synth on the AKAI Force, though you can easily complete this project using the AKAI MPC or the VST/AU versions of the synth on a desktop computer. We create a Deluxe Drawbar organ patch, complete with 17 tone shaping and performance controls. The idea here is that not only do you get a lot of hands on experience programming OPx-4, but you also end up with a very versatile patch that you can use in future projects because so much tone sculpting is available from these controls. In this introductory tutorial, we cover some of the core principles of OPx-4 programming, such as signal routing, envelopes, operator tuning, the modulation matrix, and global FX.
