Day one of the Ora Cup Ora Optimist 2024, with 544 competitors in all (78 Div. B and 466 Div. A) saw the conclusion of two races for all fleets in sunny conditions and winds of 10-14 knots. It was a wonderful spectacle and a thrill to see so many children and youngsters take to the starting line. In 2006, these children included Ruggero Tita, who won that year's Ora Cup! Ruggero is now a two-time Olympic champion in the Nacra 17!
In category B, cadets in the lead was Antoinette Papin from France, followed by Pietro Lombardi (FVMalcesine) and Jugo Lazzerini (CVTorbole). In Div. B, the Turkish Guvenc led, tied with the Italian Matteo Ravaioli (CV Ravennate) and the other Turkish Budak. Since there are four batteries, it will take more regattas to see a more definite classification.
