In this video, I cover the basics of OSPF, starting with its three-step process. First, I explain how OSPF routers form neighborships by discovering and establishing connections through Hello packets. Next, I walk through the database exchange process, where routers share LSAs to build a consistent Link-State Database. Finally, I discuss how OSPF uses Dijkstra’s algorithm to calculate the shortest path and select the best routes. I also touch on the roles of the Designated Router (DR) and Backup Designated Router (BDR) in reducing LSA flooding in multi-access networks, and I introduce the area concept, which helps segment larger networks for better scalability.
