Ice thinned out inside the glass Minutes drifted, left to pass Fingers tracing brittle lines On a wall that isn’t mine Then a fracture in the air Not my weight and not my care Still it trembled through the space Like a name I couldn’t place “I can’t stay… I have to choose…” Words I’ve never dared to use Fell and settled in my chest From a voice without a face At the table next to mine Worlds collide without a sign Hands let go, and voices fray Something slips and falls away I remain outside the frame Untouched by the shift or flame They are burning, bright and far… But it never reaches where I am Time folds into something still Bent between a break and will “I’ll be gone by morning light…” “I just want to make this right…” No beginning, no clear end Just a moment out of frame Like a scene that lost its name Yet it lingers all the same Every silence, every breath Edges closer into depth I have floated far too long Where no moment feels too strong At the table next to mine Something breaks along the line Words like glass upon the air Shatter softly, unaware I exist beyond the scene Where it fades before it’s seen They are fire, close and scarred… But it never reaches where I am Maybe I have lived too light Never wrong and never right Watching worlds I never claim Passing through without a name If I rose and chose a side Let it cut and let it guide Would it find me where I stand… Or dissolve before my hand? Chairs move back… a quiet sound… Something lost but never found… At the table next to mine Something ends beyond a line No more words to rearrange Only distance left by change I am fixed outside the flame Unaddressed and left unnamed They have altered who they are… But it never reaches where I am Something lingers in the air… Before it slips and fades away it never finds me there
