Welcome to the Midwest Garden Pros Series! In this video, we’re featuring a part-shade plant trio perfect for your garden. These plants flourish in moist, well-drained soil with 4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily.
Carex muskingumensis (Palm Sedge) – This compact sedge grows 2-3 feet tall, adds lush, palm-like texture, and helps with early spring weed control.
Lobelia siphilitica (Great Blue Lobelia) – Known for its vibrant blue flowers, this plant attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and can bloom until frost.
Eurybia macrophylla (Big-Leaved Aster) – Featuring striking lavender flowers and heart-shaped foliage, this aster draws Monarch Butterflies and thrives from August to October.
All three plants are ideal for the Midwest, tolerating heavy clay soils and being deer-resistant. They’re low-maintenance and provide winter interest while supporting local wildlife.
