This will normally be when the rod is past the 6 oclock position, 12 oclock being cast direction. Normally you should wait until the rod is near 4 oclock position. What I forgot to mention however is if you can get the lead more than 90 degrees off the tip the lead will be in the right position sooner and you will get a more efficient hit. Practicing the heavy leads 175g, 200g casting off the ground will help with this. Good luck!
