Phantom Canyon Road is a roughly 30-mile scenic, unpaved gravel road (part of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway) connecting Florence and Victor, Colorado, near Colorado Springs It features stunning views, historic tunnels, and the Adelaide Bridge, rising from 5,500 to 9,500 feet elevation The drive typically takes 1.5–2 hours and is generally suitable for passenger vehicles Key Information & Tips Location: Access via Highway 67 north of Florence or from Victor to the north Condition: Unpaved, gravel, narrow, and often dusty with steep cliffs and limited guardrails While many cars navigate it, higher clearance is recommended for comfort Time: Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the drive (roughly 30 miles) Highlights: Features two tunnels, the historic, steep-curved Adelaide Bridge, and scenic rock formations Best Time to Visit: Late spring through autumn (May–October) Ideal in fall for golden aspen foliage Amenities: Limited to no cell service; there are two rest areas with parking for about 3-5 cars and primitive toilets Camping: Primitive, dispersed camping is available on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land along the route Recommendation: Combine with Shelf Road or Skyline Drive in Cañon City for a full day trip
