Phase Off: Block vs Script MXR Phase 100
Upon researching the differences between the block- and script-logo MXR Phase 100, I realized that unlike its more popular and well-known sibling, the Phase 90, there were no video comparisons of the different versions of the Phase 100. Based on what I learned (and heard) regarding the differences between the script and block Phase 90s, I opted for the script Phase 100 and couldn't be happier. Thanks to my friend Alex Chod of The Vorticists (who loaned me his block logo-era Phase 100 after borrowing my script logo-era Phase 100 to record with), I was able to make this video comparing the two. I used a 1965 Gibson ES-330 through a 1971 Fender Princeton with a 12" AlNiCo Oxford speaker. I put new Energizer batteries in each pedal before recording this demo. Believe it or not, this was recorded and filmed with an iPhone 4S (no additional processing whatsoever). I hope this helps you in your decision whether to buy a block-logo Phase 100 or a script-logo.
