This lab uses the ingenious device developed by George Atwood to study Sir Isaac Newton's 3 laws of Motion. I will demonstrate the 1st Law (Principle of Inertia) and then explain how the next two laws (2nd Law - an object acted upon by a net force will accelerate in the direction of the net force according to Fnet = ma and 3rd Law - Force occurs in equal but opposite pairs, F12 = -F21) describe the operation of the Atwood machine.
