Our research group at the American Museum of Natural History is using Haskell to implement combinatorial search strategies on phylogenetic graphs. These graphs represent the evolutionary history of a variety of comparative biological phenomena including evolutionary trees of anatomy, DNA sequences, and the evolution of human populations, culture, and language. We present some of our work in data analysis and graph manipulations in the light of the benefits and challenges working in the Haskell ecosystem.
