pieces

I want to preface this song with the fact that I’m not proud of it. I spent 20 minutes just getting something out onto the recording and then I called it good. It’s long, repetitive, and clunky, but it’s still my song, and it still has a purpose. This song should be something that makes you feel something. It’s not really “about” anything, and though I obviously had my own exigence for creating it, I don’t want to specify what’s going on in my life that led me to writing this piece. This song is struggle. Not the struggle that gets you places or teaches you discipline or earns you anything in the end, just the endless struggle of being human. I know this sounds cheesy and whatever but I don’t care. Everyone struggles with something and it’s not always something worth struggling for. That’s what “pieces” represents. The endless struggle for no reward. The end of something that made you happy. The memory of having something to struggle for. So here it is, bare and open, “pieces.”
