'PITCHING DECK' | DCS: SUPERCARRIER
My sincere thanks to the whole team at Eagle Dynamics for their tireless work on creating and improving an utterly immersive flight simulator. This is my first attempt at a DCS World 'cinematic', of sorts. It started out simply by flying some bad weather scenarios with the new DCS:World 'Supercarrier' module. The challenges of flying around the boat in poor weather become particularly apparent with the increased pitching and rolling motion of the deck. It brought me right back to the incredible scenes from PBS 'Carrier' episode 'Rites of Passage' in which the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group encountered extreme sea states in the Indian Ocean off Australia. Audio from that episode is used to narrate the scenes here shot in DCS: World. Included is a favourite sequence of mine when Marines aviators in the VMFA-232 ready room commentate on the final recovery of a harrowing night of pitching deck ops, that of cmdr David Fravor(ret) then CO of VFA-41.
