In section 2.4 of the AP Biology curriculum - Plasma Membranes - students are expected to learn about cell membranes, how they are formed from phospholipid molecules and proteins, and other components (like cholesterol) that are added in for functionality. Scientists use the Fluid Mosaic Model to describe these components and the way proteins and other membrane components can float through the phospholipid bilayer like boats on an ocean of phospholipids. This allows cells to create specialized internal conditions that are just right for completing the reactions necessary for life! This quick biology lecture gives you everything you will need to know for the AP Biology test. Resources related to this Video: 1. Overview: The same information, for those who prefer to read.
