Plate Tectonics

Earth's continental masses, upon we live are propelled wherever the currents take them. As a matter of fact, scientists believe that the face of earth has changed a lot since it's beginning. They believe that long ago Earth had one super-continent called Pangaea. But over time this landmass began to drift apart into pieces which are 7 continents that we know today. These explanations are covered under the theory of Plate Tectonics. Plate tectonics is the theory that Earth's outer shell (crust) is made up of several plates, that glide over the mental with each moving independently of the others. The movement of these tectonic plates can sometime cause problems. We do not feel movements of these plates, but they are moving and sometimes they release energy in the form of waves. We call these waves Earthquakes. Earthquakes have been known to cause damages to worth millions of dollars, resources and houses. Even take lives. So Earth is a great place to live and we can enjoy it's beauty to the fullest as long as we are aware of its faults.
