Playing fantasy zone
Fantasy Zone is a shoot ‘em up (horizontal shooter) arcade video game developed and published by SEGA. You control a living ship called Opa-Opa in a very colorful and fanciful universe. The goal is to fly through different screens, destroy enemy bases then defeat the boss to move on to the next level. The game stands out for its cheerful style, pastel graphics and atypical gameplay for the time, which has led to it sometimes being classified in a subgenre called cute ’em up. Publisher/Developer: SEGA (Sega R&D1 for the original arcade). Original release date: 1986 (arcade). It was then ported to Master System, MSX, NES, TurboGrafx-16, X68000, and many other platforms. Modern reissues and ports also exist (Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, compilations) Other games in the series/important sequels The Fantasy Zone series has had several sequels and spin-offs: Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (1987) – direct sequel to the first game, still a shoot ‘em up. Opa Opa /Fantasy Zone: The Maze (1987) – derivative game. Galactic Protector (1988) – other title related to the license. Fantasy Zone Gear: The Adventures of Opa-Opa Jr. (1991) – sequel to Game Gear. Super Fantasy Zone (1992) – a more advanced version of the concept. Fantasy Zone (Redemption Game) (1999) – special arcade version. Fantasy Zone Medal (2012) – spin-off game in Japan.
