PLOTCON 2017: Sam Kronick, From (x,y) to (lon,lat): Visualizing spatial data with Mapbox

Mapbox builds a location platform for developers and designers, providing tools to integrate custom maps and data visualizations into mobile and web applications. This talk will look at several aspects of what makes visualizing spatial data challenging and exciting: dealing with map projections, designing at multiple scales, using cartography as a data source, showing data in local context, and gathering usage feedback to make better maps. Biography Sam is an engineer and designer who builds interactive visualizations as part of the labs team. He holds an MFA in Visual Arts from UC San Diego and BS in Architecture from MIT.
