Watch how Linda Hendrickson uses a gripfid to make the ply-split "Waffle", and see items she has made with this technique, including braids, several mats, a scarf, and two baskets.
This ply-split braiding technique starts with making 2-ply, 2-color cords with good contrast in value or color. The structure is POT (plain oblique twining), with a full twist between splittings. The result is the "Waffle" texture, with one value/color dominant on the front side, while the other value/color is dominant on the reverse.
