Polymerisation / Addition Polymerisation and Condensation Polymerisation
Polymerisation is the process of combining monomers into a long chain molecule called polymer. There are two types of polymerisation - addition polymerisation and condensation polymerisation. Synthetic polymers are called plastics. Examples of synthetic polymers are polyethene, polypropene, polystyrene, nylon, and terylene. 00:00 - Polymer 00:52 - Polymerisation 01:07 - Addition polymerisation - polyethene 02:40 - Polypropene 02:46 - Polystyrene 03:01 - Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) 03:22 - Teflon 03:36 - Naming of synthetic polymers 03:48 - Condensation polymerisation 04:55 - Nylon 05:53 - Polyamide 07:04 - Terelyne 07:33 - Polyester Catering for IGCSE and SPM students.
