Polynomial Multiplication: Box Method and Distributing
Polynomial Multiplication This video explains how to multiply polynomials using two different approaches: distributing and using the box method (or table method). The advantage of using the box method is that like terms are easier to identify and are geographically closer to one another, making the simplification process easier. Most students prefer to distribute since they've learned the distributive property in earlier grades, but beginning students may appreciate the box/table method and how it connects to their prior learning of partial products. Some terms used in this video are: Polynomial: A multi-term expression, commonly used when there are three or more terms. Box/table model: Using rectangles and their areas to illustrate multiplication. Distribute: Multiplying each term by every other term in the problem. Operations with polynomials, like multiplication, is a Common Core math standard. http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/HSA/APR/A/1/ Math Videos for Parents Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mathvideosforparents Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVCVmCfZhq0mLLB6D2bbQ7Q Please reach out with any problem requests.
