Pool Maintenance - Part 1
Downsizing into a 1979 house in disrepair means there are tons of projects. If I sound out of breath it's because of the high pollen count. It was bad. April 2026. I wanted to get a jump on the pool before it gets too hot. This vid is a snapshot of what's to come. The pool turned into a hippo pond due to the pollen falling from the trees turning the water green 🤣. 4 part series surrounding the pool repair: Part 1 - Pollen, skimmer baskets, system overview. Part 2 - Sand Filter Part 3 - Repairing Fiberglass Steps, Draining a Pool Part 4 - Salt Cell Installation Shoutout to bluffcitytree.com for their help planting our line of privacy trees. During the home inspection, a giant hole was discovered under the storage box. Logic would dictate, the storage container was placed over the hole in an attempt to hide it. The inspector said, "it looks like an armadillo den". I had my doubts about that. A separate pool inspection was done the same day. No mention of a leak coming from the Polaris hose. The system received a passing score. After closing on the home, and getting the water tested, the cyanuric acid level was 3x too high making the pool unswimmable. 20,000 gallons of water needed to be drained (28,000 gallon pool). I decided to wait until spring before running up a huge water bill. That's when I noticed the leak from the Polaris, and the flow of water leading to the eroded hole. DIY is a lot of investigation work. Why is this like that? What created this problem? Research the solution, and design a formula for completion. I see home repair the same way I see writing a recipe. Envision the completed dish (project), identify your ingredients (tools), write the recipe (process). After that, it's a matter of cook time & staffing. #poolmaintenance #jandy #vevortools #pollenseason
