Post Concussion Vertigo

😵🤕 Vertigo, dizziness, and disequilibrium are common symptoms following concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Dizziness and vertigo may be the result of trauma to the peripheral vestibular system or the central nervous system, or, in some cases, may be due to anxiety, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder; these mechanisms are not mutually exclusive.⠀ ⠀ In this particular case, this is her 3rd head injury (last two onto the back of her head) within a year...Multiple head injuries close together spells trouble in that now her brain is now forever changed. This can be debilitating for people and is commonly referred to as POST CONCUSSION SYNDROME, where a person can have ongoing symptoms for years or their entire life! She's off to a great start with her treatment after a couple simple maneuvers that took about 5 minutes. ⠀ ⠀ The maneuver in fast forward is called the "epley maneuver". It's a repositioning maneuver that is commonly used for vertigo symptoms of ⠀ Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (or BPPV). This is the most common cause of vertigo, which is a false sensation of spinning.⠀ ⠀ Benign – it is not life-threatening⠀ Paroxysmal – it comes in sudden, brief spells⠀ Positional – it gets triggered by certain head positions or movements⠀ Vertigo – a false sense of rotational movement⠀ ⠀ The sooner you get an exam after a concussion the better the outcome.
