Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology is a method to transmit power and data, up to 100 meters, over a single Ethernet (CAT5e/CAT6/ CAT6a) cable. Powered Device (PD) is a device such as a wireless access point or camera that accepts power from a power supply equipment. A Power Supply Equipment (PSE) is any device that provides or injects power onto an Ethernet cable. In this video, Moxa demonstrates various options to power a device. A PoE power injector spits out both power and data over the Ethernet cable to power the device (Moxa AWK 3131 wireless access point). An unmanaged PoE switch can function as a power supply equipment (PSE). A managed PoE switch offers advanced management and protocol support, such as multicast filtering, quality of service, automatic warning, and SNMP security. Currently there are two industry standards for PoE. IEEE 802.3af (PoE) technology provides a maximum of 15 watt of power for the end device. The newer IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) technology delivers a maximum 34 of watts. PoE technology minimises the need for a power supply on the end device particularly in remote locations. Users have greater flexibility of device placement since there is no need to be near power outlets. FEATURED PRODUCTS 1. Moxa INJ-24 PoE injector 2. Moxa EDS-P206A unmanaged PoE+ switch 3.
