While we long for more vitality, power, and control, will-power can only take us so far. No matter how lofty our ideals and worthwhile our goals, we are ultimately at God's mercy. Trying to make things happen independent of connection with Him may lead to the unfortunate results that separated Adam and Eve from their safe haven. Jesus invites us to learn his humility and meekness and to embrace powerlessness as an invitation to connection. He is the vine and we the branches. Real fruit comes from the flow from Him to us.
