In this video we observe the electron excitation in various metals. Toothpicks soaked in solutions of various metal salts are exposed to a Bunsen burner flame and the resultant colours observed. The colours reflect the different electron configuration of the metals and the electrons releasing different wavelengths of light as they return to the ground state.
