After landing at KAWO on my see-the fall-colors and practice approaches flight, I departed west and then aimed south to fly the RNAV RWY 02 approach under VFR at KPWT, an airport about 25 miles west of Seattle.
I used this approach for more practice with Garmin SmartCharts, dynamic representations of approach information available in the Garmin Pilot app that are much less cluttered than their traditional FAA or Jeppesen counterparts.
SmartCharts include the same information as legacy charts, but based on your aircraft category, the initial fix, minimums, and other choices you make, they show only the details you need to fly the procedure. And the tabs for communications, briefing, and the missed approach streamline the process of setting up for and confirming that you’re ready to fly a procedure.
