You can definitely try this out with bad starts on longer cubes, for example the cross on 3x3, first 2 centres on 4x4 etc, but this technique is best for quick cubes, like I said in the video, Pyra, Skewb and 2x2.
I think it definitely helps to stay more consistent to your average for an event. I know that with pyraminx a really bad scramble will always give me a trash time.
