Quartz is one of the most popular countertop surfaces for kitchens and bathroom vanity tops. It is an engineered stone that is resistant to scratches, staining, and cracking. Quartz comes in many colors and patterns, making it easier to design with than natural Granite or Marble. Quartz is either sold by the slab (usually 5' x 10') or in what we call "prefab" pieces; which is short for pre-fabricated. These pre-fab pieces come with a finished edge on the front and usually one or two of the sides finished as well. The pre-fab quartz pieces are easier to transport and handle, take less time to install, and can be cut and polished with relatively inexpensive tools. Common pre-fab sizes are 2x8 and 2x10. They can also come in bigger sizes for kitchen islands and peninsulas. In this video I show how to cut and fabricate a pre-fab vanity top with an undermount sink. While I don't go over all the details of how I do it, I have a few other videos that show more detailed instruction. I advise you to watch those other videos too. It's also important to note, that quartz pre-fab is cut and polished the same way that granite is.
