Watch this video lecture on the topic Probability Intersection & Union events. Understand the concept of Probability Intersection & Union Events in detailed with rules, formula and examples at YSR EduTech. Intersection, Union and Additive rules or Addition rule for probability: Intersection: Event containing all elements that are common to both the events Example: Event A = {1,2,3,4} and Event B={3,5,6} Intersection of A and B = elements common in both. Intersection of A and B = 3 Union: Event containing all elements that belong to A or B or both Example: Event A = {1,2,3,4} and Event B={3,5,6} A union B = all the elements that are included in event A as well as event B. So that will be {1,2,3,4,5,6} It is also written as A or B Addition rule for probability or Additive rules: If A and B are two events, then P(A union B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A intersection B) P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B) Corollary: If A and B are mutually exclusive events, P(A union B) = P(A) + P(B) Complementary events are mutually exclusive events but the contrary is not true. All mutually exclusive events may or may not be complementary events Check out the video tutorial for more better explanation.
