Join Dr. Vivian Bernau at the North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station (NCRPIS) in Ames Iowa to see how regenerated maize (corn; Zea mays) is processed in the National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS). After harvest, ears are brought back to the laboratory for characterization and imaging. Once data are uploaded to GRIN-Global, technicians place one kernel from each ear into packets known as balance samples, ensuring an even distribution of genetics from the population. Funding for this video was provided by USDA-Agricultural Research Service, with additional support from Colorado State University. USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.
