3rd track (and probably the biggest banger) on Prop Dylans 2007 album "A Garbage Pail Kid". Alright, time for some new hot shit from your favorite dude who tells you about new hot shit. Although, as usual this shit is not at all new but instead has just been heavily slept on. So, I recently went through a little bit of a Jedi Mind Tricks phase and listened to all the classics that once blew me away. And while revisiting all those insane bangers from the early 2000s I asked myself one question: why can't all music be like that? I don't mean everything should sound like that, hell no, it's more about the insane, raw energy that pours out of every line of that music and the musicians dedication that's almost tangible. The same with the beats: those hard hitting, still beautifully melodic, sometimes melancholic, dense motherfuckers of instrumentals. Beats that make you bang your head like crazy while also giving you goosebumps. Many of those early JMT songs feel "complete". So I thought about other songs and musicians that made me feel that way and finally pushed myself to give Prop Dylan a closer look after years of only listening to a few of his songs. And it turns out, that guy made lots of music that shares those JMT-ingredients. Hard hitting beats with beautiful wholesome samples and a highly energetic rap style. So here's the big surprise: although I first thought Prop Dylan was from Chicago (why, brain?) or at least from the US, he's actually from Sweden. I don't know people, is that something I could have noticed? Or is he just accent-free? My english is quite alright I guess, I still wouldn't even come close to making songs like that. Damn those Scandinavians with their good school system and great english!! 😂 Even more surprising: That dude stepped on the scene with this album and had no former releases as far as I know. And he still managed to have guest appearances by New York rap legends Pumpkinhead and Block McCloud (among others). I would consider that to be even more impressive than what the Snowgoons did the same year with "German Lugers". They had the bigger line-up, sure, but they were "only" the producers, while Prop Dylan presumably shared the booth with established Hip Hop heavyweights like Pumpkinhead. But this album wasn't the end of his journey. After his success with "A Garbage Pail Kid" he went on tour and allegedly played around 500 shows on four continents, then went on to release more albums (many of them with really good music on them) and even made a track with DJ Premier. Even today (early 2025) he is still around. Not bad for a guy from Sweden. So yeah, Prop Dylans music is pure Hip Hop, heavily rooted in the Boom Bap sound of the late 90s. Props lyrics are not only well crafted but also meaningful - to say the least. And while I wouldn't honor all of his music with the word "complete", I'd definitely give that rating to a few of his songs. Let me know what you think and support the artist. https://propdylanmusic.com/ If you want to discuss your favorite rap music with me, come join me on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueRapMusic/ (still a bit empty there, just one guy sharing beats 😅) As always, I do not own any rights to this, I just want to share the rap music gems no-one has heard of. Ps: never mind about Props silly artist name, we are long past that. As you know, the Cunninlynguists are out here 😂 Pps: Fuck, I wish I never googled what the "Garbage Pail Kids" were. That shit gives the world "trashy" a whole new meaning and is probably gonna fuel my nightmares from now on, wtf
