Propagating (Rooting) Bur Oak
Today I collected dormant late winter cuttings from a half dozen bur oak trees for propagation (rooting), and hopefully planting some day soon! Bur oak (and I believe oaks in general) do not root well via dormant cuttings so we'll see how this works. The literature on the subject says that it is more likely to succeed when the cutting are taken from younger trees, so I took cuttings from both a 20 to 30 year old tree, and the 5 or 6 year old trees that I planted two years ago. I also hydrated the cuttings by soaking them for two hours, scarred them at their base to expose the cambium, and dipped them in the potent rooting hormone *DIP N Grow*. And finally, I will be spraying the exposed tips of the cuttings with *Wilt Stop* to reduce moisture loss. 🍺 If you enjoyed the video, consider buying me a beer!: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=U5BDZFCHV9WLQ&source=url Felco Pruning Shears (F 7) that I use -- https://amzn.to/3nLKmrn Wilt Stop - https://amzn.to/3uVuVRY DIP N Grow - https://amzn.to/3kH7AyB Please Share, Like, Comment, and Subscribe!
