Proving Trigonometric Identify
Proving identities is not the same as solving equations. There is no well-defined set of rules to follow in proving trigonometric identities and the process is best learned by much practice. However, the following guidelines are helpful during the process of proving one.
1. Work with one side of the equation at a time. It is often better to work with the more complicated side.
2. Look for the opportunities to add fractions, square a binomial, or factor an expression.
3. Look for opportunities to use fundamental identities or their alternative forms.
4. If the preceding guidelines don't help, try converting all terms on one side into dine and cosine and, then, combining them.
