My cat froze mid-step, ears twitching, eyes fixed on the soft light, as if she could sense the magic too. I leaned back, staring, half in disbelief, half in awe. Thirty-six minutes in, and nothing had failed. The elves had held their vigil, my laptop sang quietly with life, and my cat finally curled up in a tight little circle, reassured by the impossible. It didn’t make sense. It never would. But in that moment, with a resurrected laptop and a sleeping cat, it didn’t matter. Miracles, it seemed, were allowed to happen—at least tonight.
