Puddle - hyquo 【ORIGINAL】
A step taken in the rain, a step taken by the rain. We all try to make the right steps and make missteps along the way, but two steps forward and one step back is still a step taken. And much like a puddle is to the rain, our steps are our own fleeting mark upon the world. 'Puddle' is an indie orchestral fusion piece about moving steadily through life and learning to reflect along the way. aasafkjdhasgkhl it's finally here!! i don't think i've really let up much here on yt but some people that have been following me in other ways have known that this track has been in the works for a WHILE so i'm so excited to finally drop it! just for reference i started writing this one in march of 2022 and spent over 200 hours on it, so suffice to say it feels quite surreal to actually be finished with it and releasing it to you all now......but let's get to talking about how i made it! i feel like i play a lot with ostinatos and compound time signatures when i initially experiment with ideas for an original piece and puddle is obviously quite emblematic of that habit. i remember struggling to find a real direction for the piece in the early stages and i think a lot of the ideas at that point were mostly informed by testing my limits as a composer, which in this case meant compound time and key changes. originally the piece had a more synthetic palette but after doing my arrangement of pmd's sky tower that had a kind of indie orchestral rock type sound i figured it would be a good fit for this track as well. i thought about how the shift in time and rhythm could represent a stumbling in one's steps and then i gravitated towards using a water rippling sample, which eventually led to idea of falling into water. i wanted to maintain a lighter energy rather than a feeling of being submerged and settled on a puddle but i still liked the idea of transporting someone through a puddle like a portal of some sort (the words even sound similar!) since a puddle is still reflective so it's like going to a mirror world where all the things you did wrong are right and vice versa. it's a little hard to explain in words but i think i expressed it well in the music at least ahaha. i tried a lot of new things for myself here including using new instrument libraries and learning new production techniques along the way. it was quite a journey writing this track, fun and inspiring at times and incredibly frustrating at others, but i'm so proud of the final product. thank you all listening for the ongoing support! i feel like i never stop saying this but i'm incredibly appreciative that anyone out there is tuning in and wanting to listen to the stuff i make. puddle is such a special piece that feels like a very important part of my evolution, especially since it's my first formal single release as hyquo, so i hope you all enjoy and appreciate it as much as i do! i want to making more and more things and release them properly so stay tuned! thanks to dewream for the amazing work on the art for puddle -- you can check out her work here: https://www.instagram.com/dewream/ special thanks to my good friends @Emdasche, @starlingoboe, and @onefin for lending their ears and providing invaluable feedback and encouragement, and additional thanks to the wonderful people in AGAN and my cherished APPIS friends, i couldn't have finished this without you all !!! link to buy (pay what you want): https://hyquo.bandcamp.com/track/puddle 'Puddle' is also available to stream on Spotify, iTunes, etc.!!
