Pull Testing Slings to Destruction
This video shows some recent pull testing we did, and the final video which was actually produced for one of our customers. They intend to use this video as a training tool for their workers. The cable sling is made from 3/8" 6x19 Class Wire Rope, which represents a rather small, yet very common sling. This particular sample was in really good shape, and the final break met expectations for a used sling. The synthetic sling is 2 Ply x 2" Wide. This also represents a very common sling size among our customer base. You will notice how much the synthetic sling stretches prior to failing. You may also notice the individual strands and fibers, especially near the eye, popping and breaking more dramatically as the fail point gets closer. The final break was lower than one can expect from a brand new sling, which gives valuable insight as to how much heat, moisture, chemicals, cuts, burns and other similar damage compromise sling integrity.
